Closing your account: Credit card
I am filing this complaint against Chase Bank regarding the sudden closure of my credit card account without a clear, specific, or legally sufficient explanation. Chase approved my application, conducted its underwriting review, issued the credit card account, and subsequently decided to close the account. The adverse action notice I received contains only vague and generic statements, including " Too many recent requests for credit or reviews of your credit '' and " Account not used as intended. '' These statements fail to provide any meaningful explanation of the specific facts, conduct, transactions, or circumstances that allegedly justified the closure of my account. The phrase " Account not used as intended '' is particularly troubling because Chase has refused to explain what activity supposedly violated its policies. Consumers can not be expected to comply with undisclosed standards or secret criteria that are never communicated to them. If Chase believed there were concerns regarding my credit profile, those concerns were available to the bank before it approved and issued the account. Chase had full access to my credit report and made the decision to extend credit. Closing the account afterward without providing a specific factual basis appears arbitrary, unreasonable, and inconsistent with fair consumer banking practices. Furthermore, the adverse action notice appears insufficient because it does not identify the specific conduct, transactions, or account activity that led to the closure decision. Without this information, I am unable to verify the accuracy of Chase 's conclusions or challenge potentially inaccurate information used against me.
