Problem with a lender or other company charging your account: Checking or savings account
I purchased goods with a debit card with an online retailer. The retailer placed a temporary hold of funds for items purchased. This did not reflect in my bank account amount. They released the temporary hold. My bank account still reflected no debit or pending charges even when I called to verify my current funds over the phone automated system. This gave me a false sense of reality with my funds in the bank because it showed an amount that was not truly there. When the items shipped, the items were then charged to my card. Thus, showcasing a " second '' charge. When a pending hold is placed and then released this finalizes a transaction, so to have this " charge the card '' when shipped makes a " second '' charge. This process can take as long as it takes for an item to ship so my bank account will not reflect the true amount until it is done. This process is very deceptive, misleading and confusing. This is a well-known situation within banks and card issuers and still persists. The real issue becomes when this causes negative funds due to this deception and false sense of reality. When the bank tells me what my account availability is they're responsible to tell the true honest reality. The retailer, card issuer and bank all need to be in communication with each other at point of sale. Some banks or cards will cause an overdraft fee which is deceptive due to faulty information given because they're not truly reflecting the point of sale because of this " hold and release ''. This situation is wrong and disingenuous. These banks and card issuers could be profiting off of what is well-known false information because of this type of online sale. This needs to be revised and addressed so that when a sale is made the amount is reflected accurately within the bank records to show what is truly available in real time. Returns are just as bad when being refunded to a card. When an item is returned the funding should be instant and not take days to process. Once the item is in the company 's possession a consumer 's funds should not be held up until its decided to be sent back. This should be immediate and a consumer should not have to wait for their own money. Some people need those funds immediately for other purchases elsewhere and need that money right there and have no reason to be without their money.
