Fees or interest: Credit card
BMO closed my account and then charged a reward reversal after the account closure. I was not provided with a clear explanation of why this charge was applied, how the amount was calculated, which specific reward or transaction it related to, or which account terms authorized the charge. After BMO closed the account, I was no longer able to access online banking. Because of this, I could not review my account activity, download statements, verify the alleged balance, or check whether BMO had sent any notices or disclosures about the charge. I contacted BMO and requested an explanation of why there was a charge, including documentation showing the basis for the reward reversal and any related account statements or transaction history. BMO did not provide the requested information. BMO is now contacting me by email and phone to collect the alleged balance. The amount appears to include additional interest and late fees, even though I was not given clear notice of the charge, was unable to access my account records, and was not given a meaningful opportunity to review or dispute the amount before collection activity began. I dispute this alleged balance. I believe BMOs actions are unfair and misleading because BMO closed the account, blocked online access to the information needed to verify the charge, failed to provide a clear explanation or supporting documentation, and then attempted to collect the disputed amount with added interest and late fees.
