Closing an account: Checking or savings account
I am filing this complaint against Chime because my account was closed without warning, justification, or a meaningful explanation after I submitted a legitimate dispute regarding a fraudulent transaction. I applied for what was advertised as a credit card through an online company and paid both an activation fee and a processing fee. Shortly afterward, I conducted additional research and discovered numerous reports from other consumers indicating that the company was operating as a scam. Multiple individuals reported paying fees but never receiving any credit card or service in return. As a consumer attempting to protect my funds from fraud, I filed a dispute with Chime in good faith. I did not engage in any prohibited activity, violate any terms, or provide false information. I simply reported what appeared to be a fraudulent transaction and requested assistance recovering my money. Rather than investigating the matter transparently or providing an explanation, Chime closed my account. I was not given a clear reason for the closure, nor was I provided with any evidence that I had done anything wrong. When I contacted Chimes customer service department seeking answers, I was repeatedly told that representatives had no information available regarding the closure. I requested to speak with a supervisor or member of management, but those requests were denied. During these conversations, customer service representatives were dismissive and ultimately disconnected the calls while I was still attempting to communicate and obtain information about my account. I believe consumers should not be penalized for reporting suspected fraud. Closing my account immediately after I filed a legitimate dispute creates the appearance that I was retaliated against for exercising my rights as a customer and attempting to protect myself from a scam.
